White Glove Piano
Moving Service

Your piano is a masterpiece of craftsmanship with thousands of moving parts. Our trained specialists move it with the reverence it deserves.

Trained Specialists

Your Piano Isn't
Just Furniture

A piano is one of the most complex and delicate objects in your home. A concert grand can weigh over 1,200 pounds and contains more than 12,000 individual parts — strings under 20 tons of tension, a cast iron plate, and a soundboard calibrated to produce perfect resonance. Moving one requires far more than strong backs and a big truck.

Citywide Moving Systems' piano moving crews are specifically trained in the art of piano transportation. We understand how temperature, humidity, vibration, and impact affect these instruments. Every piano we move receives white-glove treatment: custom padding, specialized equipment, and a crew that knows the difference between a spinet and a Steinway.

Whether you're moving a family heirloom upright across town or a 9-foot concert grand to a new performance hall, Citywide has the experience, the equipment, and the care to get it there safely.

Every Piano Type

Pianos We Move

From an antique upright in a second-floor walk-up to a concert grand on a performance stage, we've moved them all.

Concert Grand Pianos

7 to 9+ feet, 900-1,200+ lbs

The largest and most valuable pianos in production. Concert grands require specialized skid boards, multiple crew members, and often custom rigging for doorways or stage access. We've moved Steinway, Bosendorfer, Yamaha, and Fazioli concert grands throughout the Carolinas.

Baby Grand Pianos

4'11" to 5'7", 500-600 lbs

The most popular grand piano for home use. Baby grands still require leg removal, lid securing, and specialized padding. Our crew handles the disassembly and reassembly — you don't need to touch a thing.

Grand Pianos

5'8" to 6'11", 600-900 lbs

Mid-size grands found in homes, churches, and music schools. These instruments combine significant weight with delicate finish work. We use quilted padding and hardboard to protect every surface during transport.

Upright Pianos

Standard & studio sizes, 300-500 lbs

Uprights are the most commonly moved piano type, but they're no easier to handle than a grand. Their tall, narrow center of gravity makes them prone to tipping without proper equipment. Our piano boards and straps keep uprights secure on stairs and in trucks.

Player Pianos

Mechanical & digital systems, 400-800 lbs

Player pianos contain delicate mechanical or electronic components in addition to standard piano parts. We take extra precautions with the player mechanism — whether it's a vintage pneumatic system or a modern digital player bar.

Antique & Heirloom Pianos

Varies widely

Older pianos often have fragile veneers, ivory keys, and aged wooden components that require special handling. We consult with you about any known sensitivities before moving day and take every precaution to preserve the instrument's character.

Our Process

How We Move Your Piano

1

Assessment & Planning

We visit your home to assess the piano type, size, and weight. We measure all doorways, hallways, and stairways on the route. If the piano needs to go through a window or over a balcony, we'll plan the rigging.

2

Specialized Padding & Wrapping

Every surface of the piano is wrapped in quilted padding secured with stretch wrap and moving blankets. Legs, pedals, and lids are individually wrapped or removed and packed separately.

3

Secure Transport

The piano is placed on a specialized piano board (skid) and secured with heavy-duty straps inside our truck. The truck is loaded so nothing can shift during transport. Climate considerations are factored into timing.

4

Delivery & Placement

At the destination, we reverse the process with equal care. The piano is unwrapped, legs are reattached, and it's placed exactly where you want it. We recommend waiting 2 to 3 weeks before tuning to let the instrument acclimate.

Specialized Equipment

The Right Tools
for the Job

Piano moving requires equipment you won't find on a standard moving truck. Our piano crews carry specialized gear designed specifically for safe instrument transport.

  • Piano skid boards

Custom hardwood boards that support the full weight of a grand piano and allow controlled sliding through tight spaces.

  • Quilted piano covers

Thick, padded covers that protect the finish from scratches, dings, and temperature changes during transport.

  • Heavy-duty straps & ratchets

Rated for 1,000+ pounds, these straps secure the piano to the skid board and inside the truck.

  • Piano dollies

Specialty rubber-wheeled dollies designed for the weight and shape of upright and grand pianos.

  • Hoists & crane service

For pianos that won't fit through doorways, we provide exterior hoisting through windows or over balconies.

Climate Storage Available

Selling your home and the new one isn't ready? Renovating and need the piano out of the way? Our climate-controlled storage facility in Monroe maintains consistent temperature and humidity levels to protect your instrument between moves.

  • Temperature maintained between 65-75 degrees F
  • Humidity controlled to prevent soundboard damage
  • 24/7 surveillance cameras
  • Clean, enclosed individual storage bays
  • Short-term and long-term options available
